Monsoon season has arrived in Arizona! A couple of nights ago we had a huge dust storm, lightning, and light rain off and on for the first time in months...and it was wonderful...minus the dust everywhere! Since we live out in the middle of the desert, we don't have much protection from the wind and dust, so we just have to wait for it all to blow through. The lightning storms are magnificent over the mountains and we could feel the thunder in our chests...it was so loud...like giant roaring lions! The monsoons pop up out of nowhere usually in the late afternoons to sundown, so you just never know when one might happen. They can be a bit terrifying at times (flooding being the worst) and we have to make sure there is nothing outside that can blow away to never be seen again. Anyway...even with all of that said, it is one of our favorite times of the year for the desert to get some much needed rain...and for all of the little desert critters and us to get some relief from the heat.
