We had monsoon storms yesterday and they will continue off and on for a few days. We barely made it home last night after working on the other house. The levy broke near the new house and everything flooded in the neighborhood. The house is okay, but the desert and roads around the house sure got washed away. We tried to leave before the roads were flooded but we got trapped between 2 other roads that were flooding. We finally were able to back up on one of the roads and find an alternative route and made it home safely. It was pretty scary.
I suffered a deep cut while picking up pieces of broken tile off the kitchen floor yesterday. I forgot my gloves at home, so this is the result. We always get little cuts and bruising while working on houses, but this cut really bled bad. I made a makeshift bandage out of some cloth and used duct tape to hold it tight. It probably needed some stitches, but it is fusing back together today. I'm sure I will have a lovely scar from it though.
Anyway, more scraping and cleaning still has to be done on the floors before I can apply the muriatic acid to open the pores in the cement for the stain to adhere. All of the little stain dots from the ceiling that dripped on the cement floor from 30 years ago have to be removed along with the white patching they did on some of the hairline cracks in the cement. If I don't get all of those marks off, they will show up through the stain process later. There were broken tiles in the middle of the kitchen and adjoining laundry room. The grout lines were also cracking, so that's why we are opting to do the "old world" marble look with the acid stain on several of the floors. We were going to just replace the tiles in the kitchen and laundry room, but after looking at them more closely, decided that we will stain the kitchen and laundry room floors too. Hopefully, we can get back out to the house in a couple of days after the storms move out.
Today, hubby and I are just going to rest as there will be more flooding again today. We have been working so hard, and our bodies need to recuperate.
