Slate Commission

I have a commission for a slate painting with 3 cat portraits coming up. Still working out the details on which cats my customer wants to portray. She has 5 cats, and eventually wants portraits of all of them on slate. (3 portraits on one piece and the other 2 portraits on slate individually.)

Next year, I will start painting slate on a regular basis. Years ago, I sold lots of paintings on slate, and they will be a great addition again to the river rock paintings. I will also be able to paint more of a variety of paintings on slate than I can on the river rocks. Another thing that is nice about slate is that I can break them to the sizes that I want for each project. Heavy duty plate stands work well for displaying the slate artwork when they are finished. They are heavy and range from 1-2 inches thick.

I have several pieces in storage that I need to get out before next year. Some pieces I kept for myself, but can show them next year in the gallery if people would like similar slate paintings I have done in the past. I love the smooth flat surfaces of slate and can't wait to paint this commission of the cat trio.

That sounds great, Maggie. I certainly do love the rocks, but I can see myself enjoying slate too. Especially because you can really do some great holiday scenes on those!

I'm excited! :)
