This afternoon, I'm going to start painting a Halloween pumpkin with a black cat popping its head out of the top of a pumpkin. The rock I have chosen is a med/large sized rock for this project. I've already patched a few rocks for pumpkins and will be using the one on the lower right side of the first photo today. I've started the orange base coats for all of them to save time. Later, when I do the smaller pumpkins I will do a little production line and work on them all at the same time.
I got in the studio early today and finished up the horse. I did more shading and highlights in the mane and on the face and neck. This evening when the weather cools down, I will get the sealant on and the colors will really pop and smooth the rock out even more.
The rest of the day I have other plans and will be out of the studio. I'm waiting for some photographs to come in the mail for my next commission of a dog that I will be painting on canvas. Until they come, I will be working on more things for the store gallery. Tomorrow, I think I will start painting some pumpkin rocks and get a head start on those while I have time. Last year, I sold out of all the ones I made. I have some new ideas this year for Halloween that I think will be pretty cute. I added some light tan to the mane and did some subtle shading on the neck and face area. That's all for this afternoon. Tomorrow afternoon, I will be able to finish up. Time to start supper.
I've added a bit if golden brown throughout the mane and will continue to add a couple of more layers of colors as I continue.
Okay, I have the mane fixed and am starting to add golden brown details on the forehead in the mane.
I made a rookie mistake if you look at the bottom photo. The mane is not going down the center of the neck. The top photo with the black shows where the mane should be centered. Oh well, it's an easy fix. I'll go back in with the white paint and add in the part of the mane that's blacked out.
I've started some initial shading on the face and have the first layer of white on the mane. Back I go... Okay, I've penciled in some areas where I will start the details. Ears are back for an aggressive running look. I'm not sure how I'm going to do the eyes yet...still thinking on that. I'll just go with the flow and change things as I go for the best look.
I'm starting the white base coat and will continue until it is pretty solid. I'll add sepia tones later for shading along with a light tan and maybe some light grey for the horse colors.
