I've decided instead of sketching out the entire rock with the chalk to just sketch out one area at a time. I'd probably wipe half of it away by the time I got to each area just by turning and handling the rock while working on it anyway. One step at a time.
I'm starting with the couple sitting at a little bistro table as a silhouette. Before I paint the heads, I need to get a few coats of red on the heart so I don't have to go back after painting in the silhouette profiles. Always paint the furthest thing away first.
